Bye-laws



  1. The Green or such portion of as may be required for Competitions or Matches may be reserved by the Committee, and no member shall have the right to play on any Rink reserved unless they are taking part in the Competition or Match for which the reservation has been made.
  2. All applications for use of a Rink or Rinks for a private game must be made to the Secretary or Match Secretary, with 3 clear days’ notice being given.
  3. The Green Convenor and/or any Committee member shall have the power to close all or part of the Green at any time, if in their opinion it is advisable to do so.
  4. Members shall have the option in order of arrival at the Green of taking part in any friendly game that may be forming, and no Member or Members shall be allowed to refuse a Game to any Member, should a vacancy occur in their game except in the case of a specially reserved Rink authorised by the Committee.
  5. The maximum number of Rinks to be occupied in Competitive Games shall be 5 when the Green is set for 6 Rinks and 6 when the Green is set for 7 Rinks. The remaining Rink will be available to any Member wishing to participate in a bounce game. None of the foregoing Byelaws will apply when Club Fixtures and Weekly Games are being played.
  6. No person shall be allowed to play upon the Green unless wearing regulation bowling shoes and the following dress code. All shirts shall have a collar, all trousers and shorts shall be tailored and when shorts are worn, they must be accompanied by sports socks. No denims, tracksuit trousers or jogging bottoms shall be worn on the green. No person is allowed on the Green unless participating in a Game or Marking a Tie.
  7. Any difference between Members as to points of play shall be settled by a mutually agreed Arbiter, whose decision is final.
  8. The Selection Committee shall consist of the Match Secretary, Assistant Match Secretary and 2 club Members who shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting and they will have responsibility for the selection of the Players and the Formation of Teams for Association Championships, for all Inter Club Games and for Cup Competitions.
  9. The Club Champion shall represent the Club in the GBA Championships and the K&D Champion of Champions the following year, then in the SBA Championships the year after that. The winner of the Presidents Cup shall represent the Club in the K&D Singles competition

    Before a Junior Member can qualify for entry into any Competition mentioned above, the afore said Junior Member must have been recommended to the General Committee by the Match Secretary for inclusion on the basis of having reached an acceptable standard of play and green etiquette.

  11. The Championship and Presidents shall be played under the current SBA Rules and consist of 21 shots up.


    The Handicap is open to Members who have not won a single-handed competition in any Club. The Selection Committee shall allocate individual handicaps. Before the start of the Tie the score card shall be set up as follows: -

    Same Handicap: -

    Players with the same handicap shall each start with Zero Shots.

    Differing Handicaps: -

    Player with the Higher Handicap shall start the tie with Zero Shots; Player with the Lower Handicap shall start the tie at minus the difference in handicaps

    First player to reach 21 shots shall be the winner.

     

    Autumn Cup – the first player to reach 75 points shall be the winner. Points should be added as shots are taken out of the head.

    Shot bowl counts as 4 points, second shot counts as 3 points, third shot counts as 2 points, fourth shot counts as 1 point. Player with Shot bowl will deliver the Jack at the next end.

     

    Nominated Pairs shall be played as a knockout over 17 ends.

    Balloted Pairs shall be played as a knockout over 17 ends. The Selection Committee shall ballot Pairs from the entrants.

    Nominated Triples shall be played as a knockout over 15 ends.

    Nominated Fours shall be played as a knockout over 15 ends.

    .

    Frank Logan Trophy will be played as a singles competition over 3 sets, the exact number of ends will be determined by the Selection Committee.

     

    Sprott Trophy Weekly Point Competition

    Games shall be played every Monday evening at 7pm. The player having the greatest number of points at the end of the Season shall be the winner. Each player must play in at least 9 games to qualify, should a player take part in more than 15 games only the best 15 games shall be taken into consideration in the calculation of points at the end of the season. The Player with the highest number of points shall receive the Sprott Trophy. In the event of a Tie on points in 15 games, the player with the highest number of shots up for his best 9 games shall be declared the Winner. Not less than 8 players must take part in each game before points and prizes will be awarded.

    Players wishing not to skip shall draw Lead or Second disks, remaining players must play as drawn.

    Points to be awarded: - 2 points for a winning rink

                                               1 point for a draw.

     

    The format of the undernoted competitions shall be decided annually dependent on the number of entries:

  12. Ties must be played on or before the date specified, Ties must be played on Stepps Bowling Green.


    1. Both Players or Skips will be deemed challengers.

    2. The date on which the tie shall be played will be by mutual agreement. Failing this a challenger shall enter 3 dates on the challenge sheet that are not consecutive (Sundays included – 1 max), on which to play the tie. The first challenge date must be a minimum of 3 days after the challenge is made and the player challenged must give 2 days’ notice of accepting any challenge. The player who has made the challenge does not need to appear on any of the challenge dates unless one of those dates has been accepted.
      N.B. Any challenge made on a challenge sheet must have a starting time no earlier than 6pm.

    3. Players may mutually arrange their ties but if any tie is not played off by the date fixed for completion of the round the Selection Committee will deal with the position in the following manner:

      • if the player challenged has failed to accept the challenge by making the necessary acceptance on the challenge sheet, the challenger shall be awarded the tie.

      • if the challenge has been properly made and accepted and one of the competitors fails to appear within 30 minutes of the hour fixed for the commencement of the tie his opponent shall be awarded the tie.

      • if the challenge has been correctly made and accepted on the challenge sheet for the last date of the round and the tie is not played due to the green being unplayable or no rink being available, then both players will be eliminated from the competition.

      • if the tie is arranged at the request of one competitor for the last date of the round and is not played due to reasons as in (iii) that competitor shall accept responsibility for failure to play and shall enter his opponents name forward to the next round.

    4. Where the challenge has been made and not accepted and the particular tie concerned has not been decided by the specified date, the name of the challenger shall be put forward.

    5. In the event of any dispute arising which cannot be mutually resolved, immediate notification must be made to the Match Secretary in writing, who shall take the matter to the Selection Committee for their decision which shall be considered final. Such intimation must be made at least 3 clear days prior to the Final date specified for the particular tie.

  13. Rinks shall be agreed by mutual consent of participants immediately prior to play commencing, no player in a competition shall play on the same rink, on the same day of such competition before play commences under penalty of disqualification.

  14. Substitutes shall be allowed in all nominated and balloted competitions up to and including the final. Substitutes will only be allowed from players who have not already played in the competition and may play in any position if approved by the Selection Committee.

  16. Players intending to enter “Stepps Bowling Club” teams in any Invitation or Open Competition other than those arranged by the General Committee are required to inform the Match Secretary prior to accepting the invitation or submitting the entry for the same.

  17. In any one year a non-member cannot be signed in on any more than six occasions. This does not include social functions.

  18. The following playing times are for guidance only and the General Committee reserve the right to alter these as and when necessary to suit Club commitments and Green Maintenance.

  19. The Match Secretary through the Selection Committee shall have the authority to alter or vary the foregoing Bylaws for reasons which may arise due to exceptional circumstances.
